Paul Rice of the Rice & Rose Law Firm was one of three presenters at a Volusia County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division luncheon on April 17, 2014.

Partner Philip Bonamo spoke as one of the invited speakers at the Seminar A Divorce Law Guide From A to Z, sponsored by NBI- National Business Institute.  The all day seminar was held at the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Hilton Hotel and Resort on April 2, 2014. 

While the divorce rate of the entire U.S. population has remained fairly steady, the rate for the “over 50" set has risen dramatically. In 1990, one in 10 people who got divorced was over the age of 50. In 2010, it was one in four. A half century ago, less than 3% of Americans older than 50 were divorced.

Most contested divorces and other types of family law cases resolve by informal or formal mediation.   Mediation is a confidential meeting between the parties, their attorneys and a neutral third party.  During mediation the parties attempt to reduce to writing an agreement that resolves either all or part of the disputed issues. 

Attorney Beth King hosted the WNDB Rice & Rose Legal Forum with special guest Sandra Upchurch on March 18. Ms. Upchurch, a local attorney and mediator, is a candidate for Seventh Judicial Circuit Judge.

Rice & Rose Law Firm Attorney Beth King, pictured here with Attorney John Morgan of the  Morgan & Morgan law firm, attended the March 11 meeting of the Tiger Bay Club of Volusia County. Mr. Morgan gave a presentation on the debate over legalizing Medical Marijuana in Florida.

The Florida Legislature will reconvene for it annual session on March 4, 2014.  As with every year, there will be a host of topics for the Florida state House and state Senate to consider- from education, to state health insurance coverage, and once again this year an attempt to revamp the alimony statute in Florida. 

On February 21st, Attorney Beth King (pictured here with school counselor Jewel Johnson) participated in the Tomoka Elementary School Career Day Event.  Ms. King, a five year veteran of Career Day, follows in the Rice & Rose tradition established by Senior Partner Paul Rice.

What an exciting time to live in the Daytona Beach area!  With the work going on at the  Daytona Rising and the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, the coming of Daytona Live, the Hard Rock Hotel and Prototype developments, and the exciting work at Embry Riddle University and the refurbishment of many hotels on our beach side, the Daytona Beach area is experiencing a renaissance.
