Recently, Matthew Shapiro attended a meeting of the Dunn-Blount Chapter of the American Inns of Court featuring a presentation by attorney Mel Stack, Chair of the Seventh Circuit Grievance Committee, and Amelia Beamer, a non-attorney member of the committee, regarding attorney professionalism, ethics, and the attorney disciplinary process within Florida’s Seventh Judicial Circuit.
The American Inns of Court is a national organization dedicated to promoting professionalism, civility, ethics, and excellence within the legal profession. Modeled after the historic English Inns of Court, the organization brings together judges, attorneys, and law students to foster mentorship, continuing legal education, and a higher standard of practice within the legal community.
The presentation also provided valuable insight into the role of the Seventh Circuit Grievance Committee, which operates as part of The Florida Bar disciplinary system. Grievance committees investigate and evaluate complaints against attorneys to determine whether probable cause exists for further disciplinary proceedings. The discussion emphasized the importance of professionalism, client communication, ethical obligations, and maintaining public trust in the legal system.
