Beginning January 2025, a new law in Florida will regulate minors’ access to social media and online content. This legislation prohibits children under 14 from creating social media accounts and requires parental consent for 14- and 15-year-olds. The law also requires that platforms verify users’ ages in order to access pornographic material.
This new legislation has already faced many criticisms surrounding its First Amendment challenges and it wont be surprising to see many individuals and platforms challenge this legislation within the courts.
This new law represents a potential change to the common agreements and terms found within parenting plans in family law cases across the state, given that the courts retain jurisdiction over both parents and their minor children within family law cases.
As this will be new territory to cross within the family law courts, it is important to have educated and well-versed counsel to guide you. The Rice Law Firm has handled many family law and parenting plan issues since 1986. Contact us today at our Daytona Beach location at 386-310-2914.
