The Economic Power Hour was held at the Ormond Chamber Boardroom on Wednesday, April 10th at 8am. The guest speaker was Attorney Matthew Shapiro with the Rice & Rose Law Firm.
Mr. Shapiro presented an overview of the mortgage foreclosure process with an emphasis placed on Volusia County. The audience was given information in regard to (1) the main documents involved (what is a mortgage, what is a note, etc.); (2) the differences between a residential and commercial foreclosure; (3) the judicial process; (4) the liability a defaulted borrow faces; (5) the defenses available to someone who is facing foreclosure; and (6) the effect foreclosures are having on well-being of our county.
