You may have heard change is in the air for 2013, and apparently the Florida Supreme Court got the message. Recently our Florida Supreme Court made a major change in what type of claims may be made in contract dispute cases by ruling that the economic loss rule now only applies in product liability cases.

Paul Rice, his spouse Kristi, Jim Rose and his spouse Janice attended the Daytona Regional Chamber annual dinner on February 11 at the Hilton in Daytona Beach.  Jim Rose is the chairman-elect of the Chamber for 2014.

Paul Rice, senior partner with the Rice & Rose Law Firm, attended the annual Marital and Family Law Review Course on January 25 and 26, 2013, which was presented by the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar and the Florida Chapter of the American Acadamy of Matrimonial Lawyers. 

Jim Rose gave a speech on mortgage foreclosures at the Volusia County Economic Development Fourth Quarter breakfast held on February 8th.

Attorney Matthew Shapiro was recently appointed to serve as legal counsel for the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce.

At its meeting on January 8, 2013, the City Commission approved Resolution No. 2013-15 reappointing Jim Rose as a Goodwill Ambassador.

On November 8, 2012, Rice & Rose Attorney Matthew C. Shapiro was admitted to practice law in the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida. Geographically the Middle District of Florida stretches over 350 miles from the Georgia border on the northeast to south of Naples on Florida’s southwest cost.

Paul Rice recently chaired the Volusia County Bar Association's 2012 Family Law Section meeting on October 1, 2012, at the Volusia County Courthouse Annex. The meeting was attended by all four of Volusia County's family law Judges as well the family law General Magistrate, the director of Family Court Services, numerous members of the clerk's office and approximately 50 family law attorneys.

A sitting Florida Supreme Court justice told a small group here on Friday that he faces a challenge like no other come November — the possible loss of his seat on the high court.
